BEIJING, Aug.3 (Xinhuanet) -- Sony on Thursday said it is recalling 350,000 Cyber-shot digital cameras because the metal coating could peel off and cut users' hands, media reported.
"The coating did not have enough adhesive strength, so it may peel off and curl up, hurting a user's hand," said Sony spokeswoman Ryoko Takagi.
The company will replace the bottom casing, where the problem occurs, at no cost.
The recall affects 284,000 Cyber Shot DSC-T5 cameras sold in the United States, Europe and China, and about 66,000 sold in Japan.
The affected model, the Cyber-Shot DSC-T5, was released in September 2005 and is no longer manufactured, the company said.
Customers are advised to check the model and serial numbers of their cameras to see if they are among the affected products, the company said.
The cameras have serial numbers from 3500001 to 3574100.
In November last year, Sony announced a voluntary recall of eight types of Cyber-Shot digital cameras due to a possible glitch with the image sensor.
Last year the electronics giant was also hit by recalls of millions of its laptop computer batteries for fear they might catch fire.
