A ceremony has taken place in Cuba's third biggest city of Camaguey to mark Revolution Day. Acting President Raul Castro says the event signals Havana's willingness to talk to a new American administration.
Hundreds of thousands of Cubans participated in the event. But president Fidel Castro was not at the celebrations.
The country's Acting President Raul Castro signaled Cuba is willing to talk with a new US administration after president George W.Bush leaves office.
Raul Castro said, "If the new American authorities finally give up their high-handedness and decide to hold civil discussions, then they are welcome. If not, we are ready to continue facing their hostile policies for another 50 years."
The anniversary marks the July 26, 1953 attack on the Moncada army barracks in the eastern city of Santiago led by the Castro brothers.
It became the rallying cry for the subsequent revolutionary movement that gained new strength and eventually toppled dictator Fulgencio Batista.
