South Korea has sent an envoy to Afghanistan in an bid to secure the safe return of its hostages. Meanwhile, US troops in Ghanzni province are carrying out raids where Taliban insurgents are believed to be holding the group.
The kidnapping of 22 South Korean hostages occurred here, in the Karabagh district of Ghazni province. On Thursday, U.S. soldiers conducted security checks, questioning residents and searching vehicles in the area.
The fate of the 22 Christian volunteers continues to hang in the balance, after militants killed one hostage and dumped his body in close proximity to where the group were seized last week.
A Taliban spokesman said the hostages remained unharmed, despite the passing of an another deadline.
