TV hosts contest opens in Beijing

So who wants to be on TV? Who has what it takes? And what DOES it take? Well pretty soon we're going to find out, as a nationwide TV audience gets to choose the winners of this year's White Elephant Cup, which is to say, to choose from among this year's contestants, who would make the best television host.
Contestants are competing in three categories: "Live Hosting," "Common Space" and "Audience Interaction." Audiences watch...then they evaluate the performance of each competitor. Then the vote. More than 5-thousand TV-wannabbees from around the Chinese speaking world leapt at the opportunity to compete. Thursday night starts the preliminary rounds. 64 competitors will try to charm their way into one of 32 spots in the final round.
The competition is sponsored by China Central Television, the nation's flagship broadcaster.
The White Elephant Cup is back for its fifth year.
